Origins of the Term “Fallen Angels”
The term “fallen angels” primarily finds its roots in Christian theology. It refers to a group of angels who rebelled against God and were cast out of Heaven.

The most well-known figure among them is Lucifer, who is often identified with Satan, the embodiment of evil. This narrative is primarily based on biblical passages, such as Isaiah 14:12-15 and Ezekiel 28:12-17.
The Rebel Leader: Lucifer
Lucifer is commonly depicted as the archetypal fallen angel. His story is a symbol of pride, rebellion, and the consequences of disobedience.
The name “Lucifer” is derived from the Latin term for “light-bringer” or “morning star.” Before his fall, Lucifer was a high-ranking angel who desired to exalt himself above God.
His rebellion led to his expulsion from Heaven, and he became the adversary, Satan.
The Fallen Angels’ Rebellion
The rebellion of the fallen angels is a key component of their narrative.
The Book of Revelation in the Bible mentions a great war in Heaven, wherein Michael and his angels fought against the dragon (Satan) and his rebellious angels.
The dragon and his followers were ultimately cast out of Heaven.
Islamic Tradition
In Islam, the concept of fallen angels is not as prominent as it is in Christianity, but there are references to angels who disobeyed God’s command.
In Islamic tradition, Iblis (the Islamic equivalent of Satan) refused to bow to Adam and was subsequently expelled from Paradise.
While Iblis is not an angel, his defiance and fall from grace share similarities with the fallen angels in Christian tradition.
Where do fallen angels live?
The specific place where fallen angels live is a notion which has often been debated across different religious beliefs.
But it is equally crucial to understand that fallen angels are spirits and cannot be seen physically. So, where exactly do these fallen angels live?
Some theologians claim fallen angels reside or live in second heaven, where Satan built his throne. These theologians support their claim with the biblical verse which make reference to third heaven. Accordingly, Apostle Paul says in the Book of 2 Corinthians 12:2:
“I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows.”
If therefore third heaven exists, theologians postulated, then there is clearly second heaven. This second heaven is primarily dominated by Satan and his fallen angels.
Theologians further explain lucidly that three heavens exist. The first is the human abode known as earth; the second heaven is of Satan and fallen angels while third heaven is inhabited by God and His holy angels.
However, the Bible does not explicitly emphasize on the second heaven nor disclose it as entirely occupied by fallen angels also called evil spirits or demons.
We are consequently not opposing these theologians biblical knowledge of fallen angels’ resident, but we are simply contributing our own ideas, mainly using biblical verses which accurately reveals where these demons or fallen angels dwell.
The Book of Matthew 12:43-45 provides evidently where these fallen angels live. It says:
43 “When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none.
44 Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order.
45 Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.”
From the above verses, it is clear that fallen angels possess human and live in them. Four thousand fallen angels can possess one person.
However, when they are cast of the possessed person with prayer, they become homeless. Interestingly, when fallen angels dwell in a man, they influence the person with different evil characters, making the possessed person to kill, hate, get jealous, lying, joining cultism, fear, envy, greedy, masturbation, among others.
The signs of fallen angels dwelling in human vary. A typical of this is noted when fallen angels known as “Legion” possess someone in the Bible. The possessed man was driven mad by the fallen angels. Luke 8: 27 – 31 says:
27 When Jesus stepped ashore, he was met by a demon-possessed man from the town. For a long time this man had not worn clothes or lived in a house, but had lived in the tombs.
28 When he saw Jesus, he cried out and fell at his feet, shouting at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I beg you, don’t torture me!”
29 For Jesus had commanded the impure spirit to come out of the man. Many times it had seized him, and though he was chained hand and foot and kept under guard, he had broken his chains and had been driven by the demon into solitary places.
30 Jesus asked him, “What is your name?”
“Legion,” he replied, because many demons had gone into him. 31 And they begged Jesus repeatedly not to order them to go into the Abyss.
Fallen angels also live in sea: “Then I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name.” Revelation 13:1
